Awaken HR was founded by culture, inclusion and engagement specialist, Serena Morphy, CPHR, SHRM. Serena believes in creating value-led cultures and diverse environments where everyone feels represented, included and valued.
Prior to launching Awaken HR, Serena spent twelve years as an in-house HR Leader focused on integrating business strategy with people practices for publicly traded corporations on a national and global scale.
Serena holds a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree, a Certificate in Human Resources Management, and a Diploma in Marketing Management. Serena is also a Certified Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) and is accredited as a Senior Practitioner by The Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) in the United States. In 2015, Serena was awarded the Rising Star Award by The Association for Certified Professionals in Human Resources (CPHR) for her achievements in leading an employee engagement initiative across multiple countries. Serena is also certified as a Yoga Teacher by the Yoga Alliance and incorporates her background into offering wellness and mindfulness initiatives and retreats for her clients.
Serena is an active member in her communities both professionally and personally. Serena has volunteered her time with various not for profits that benefit marginalized women and with the CPHR on various committees and engagements such as, the association’s Advisory Council where she served as Chair, the Conference Planning Committee, The Public Policy Committee and the Professional Mentorship Program.
She enjoys exploring the world and experiencing different cultures, foods and sights!
Eugene brings extensive hands-on and international HR experience and expertise to his HR consulting. Born in Hong Kong and raised in the UK, where he began his HR career, Eugene moved to Canada in 2018. He is a CPHR and SHRM designated HR professional.
With over 8 years of experience across diverse industries, including HR and recruitment consulting, visual effects, SaaS and IT Solutions, medical equipment and public practice accounting, Eugene has a proven track record of delivering impactful HR solutions. His foundation in Psychology, combined with an MSc in Work Psychology & Business from Aston University, provides him with a deep understanding of human behavior, enabling him to deliver tailored solutions.
Eugene approaches workplace matters with empathy, analytical thinking, and a collaborative spirit. He is commitment to excellence and ethical practice, helping organizations to build diverse, high-performance, value-led workplace cultures.
Capone played an integral role in the creation of Awaken HR—you could say he co-founded it.
For the first 10 years of his life, Serena would leave for work each day saying, “One day, I will find a job where you can come with me.” Without knowing it, Awaken HR was being co-manifested long before it began.
Once the business launched, Capone became a daily fixture—eagerly trotting into Serena’s home office each morning at the words, “Let’s go to work.” He’d often arrive before her, settle into his office bed, and promptly fall asleep on the job.
He sat beside Serena during every Zoom call (sometimes snoring loudly), barked just enough in early 2020 to make things a little more human, and reminded her to take breaks by nudging the corner of her laptop or gently pawing at her to move. His steady presence brought calm, joy, and perspective.
Capone was Serena’s heartbeat in both life and work. He was the unofficial Chief Morale Officer, quietly shaping the culture and spirit of Awaken HR from the very beginning.
Capone brought 5 years of meaningful support in the formulation and beginning of Awaken HR, and fifteen years of unwavering love and support.
If you’ve worked with Awaken HR you’ve likely met Capone—on Zoom, during office visits, or on a walking meeting. He enjoyed meeting clients and being invited to their offices. His legacy lives on in the heart of this business, and in the values it was built upon.
